Would past sins count in a bad direction? Jade is sort of an example of someone who intellectually knows better and who therefore does try to stop himself. He has no empathy or instinct for right and wrong, so he compensates by extrapolating the 'correct' moral path from what he thinks certain people he trusts and respects would believe to be right. But before he got there, he participated in extremely unethical scientific experimentation, so if it's sin that is sensed, there is a lot of sin sitting over here.
